Кулон з кварцом

Quartz is an exceptionally widespread and wonderfully diverse mineral, primarily composed of silicon dioxide (SiO₂). It is one of the Earth's crust's key minerals, captivating with its beauty and properties.

Known for its significant hardness (7 on the Mohs scale), it is scratch-resistant and ideal for jewelry and decorative objects. Quartz exhibits a characteristic vitreous luster and can range from perfectly transparent to completely opaque. Unlike many other minerals, quartz lacks cleavage (the ability to split along smooth planes), instead displaying a conchoidal fracture.

Its true appeal is revealed in its wealth of colors and forms. The most well-known varieties include:

• Rock Crystal: Colorless, transparent quartz.
• Amethyst: Shades from pale lilac to deep purple.
• Citrine: From light yellow to golden-brown.
• Rose Quartz: Delicate pink tones, usually translucent.
• Smoky Quartz (Rauchtopaz): From gray to brown or almost black, transparent to translucent.
• Milky Quartz: White, translucent or opaque.

There are also microcrystalline varieties of quartz (chalcedonies), such as agate, onyx, jasper, and carnelian, each possessing its unique beauty.

Quartz crystals form in diverse geological conditions – from igneous and metamorphic rocks to hydrothermal veins, found virtually worldwide. This makes it both accessible and endlessly fascinating for collectors. Beyond its aesthetic value, quartz holds significant practical importance. Its piezoelectric properties are utilized in precision electronics, particularly in quartz watches and resonators. It is also a raw material for glass, ceramics, and abrasive materials production.

Its variety of forms, colors, and unique properties make quartz a valuable mineral for scientific research, as well as for connoisseurs of natural beauty and collectors.
