Due to its unusual beauty and relative rarity of quality specimens, watermelon tourmaline is highly valued in jewelry and among mineral collectors. It is often cut in the form of plates (slices) to maximize the demonstration of the unique color transition, and is also used to create cabochons and faceted inserts in exclusive jewelry.
