Кулон з танзанітом

Tanzanite is an exceptionally rare and captivating gemstone, renowned for its unique blue-violet coloration. Discovered only in 1967 in Tanzania, it is a variety of the mineral zoisite and is commercially mined in only one location in the world – the Merelani Hills – making it one of the rarest gemstones on the planet. Its enchanting color, ranging from rich ultramarine to deep violet, is due to the presence of vanadium.

Tanzanite is celebrated for its distinct pleochroism (more precisely, trichroism): when viewed from different angles, the stone can display blue, violet, and even reddish-brown or bronze hues. This play of colors lends it unparalleled depth and allure. It's worth noting that most tanzanites on the market undergo heat treatment to enhance and stabilize their blue-violet color – a widely accepted practice for this gemstone.

With a hardness of 6-7 on the Mohs scale, tanzanite is sufficiently durable for use in jewelry such as earrings, pendants, and, with caution, rings. However, it exhibits perfect cleavage in one direction, making it susceptible to sharp blows and pressure, especially along its cleavage planes.

Gentle wear and care are recommended, avoiding ultrasonic cleaning and sudden temperature changes. The stone possesses an attractive vitreous luster, which is beautifully revealed with quality faceting, enhancing its brilliance and play of color. Due to its rarity, unique color, and beauty, tanzanite is highly valued by collectors and connoisseurs of jewelry art, making it an exquisite choice for exclusive pieces. Its value largely depends on color saturation (the most prized being intense blue and violet hues), clarity, size, and cut quality.

It remains one of the most desired colored gemstones in the world, offering a unique combination of exotic origin, captivating play of color, and elegance.
