12000 UAHLarimar is an extremely rare blue variety of the mineral pectolite, mined in only one place on the planet: the Dominican Republic. Also known as the "Caribbean Stone" or "Dolphin Stone", it was officially discovered (or rediscovered) in 1974 by Miguel Mendez. The name of the stone is a combination of the name of his daughter Larissa and the Spanish word "mar" (sea), which perfectly describes its captivating beauty.
The color of larimar is unique and ranges from pale blue and sky blue to rich turquoise, often with white veins and patterns that resemble sun glare on the surface of the Caribbean Sea or clouds in the summer sky. This unique blue color is due to the substitution of copper for calcium in the crystal structure of pectolite. Due to its exceptional beauty and rarity, larimar is highly prized by jewelers and collectors.
It is usually cut into smooth cabochons, beads, or polished in a free form to maximize the intricate patterns and play of color.
Larimar is not just a beautiful gemstone for jewelry, but also a true treasure of the Caribbean, attracting connoisseurs of unique minerals from around the world.
