Nuummite

Nuumite is a unique and very ancient mineral, estimated to be billions of years old, making it one of the oldest known on Earth. It is mined mainly in Greenland, in the Nuuk area, from which its name comes. This opaque stone, usually black or dark gray, fascinates with its characteristic iridescence - bright flashes of color on a dark background. These flashes, reminiscent of the northern lights, are most often golden, green, blue, yellow, and sometimes red or copper.

Nuumite owes its visual effect to microscopic needle-like inclusions of amphiboles - mainly gedrite and anthophyllite, which create a complex internal structure that refracts light. It is this fascinating play of colors and its rarity that makes nuumite a valuable material for collectors and jewelers. Nuumite is sometimes called the “sorcerer’s stone” or “philosopher’s stone” because of its mysterious appearance. It is attributed with properties that promote intuition, self-knowledge and protection from negative influences. Although this remains a matter of personal belief, the natural beauty and uniqueness of this mineral is undeniable.

Due to its expressiveness and rarity, nuumite is becoming increasingly popular in jewelry. It is used to create original pendants, rings, earrings and other jewelry, often in a silver or gold setting, which emphasizes the deep color of the stone and its bright flashes.
